Category 6 cable, commonly referred to as Cat.6, is a cable standard for Gigabit Ethernet network and other network protocols which are backward with Cat.5E standard. Cat.6 cables features more stringent specifications for crosstalk and noise compared to Cat.5E cable.

Q : What is the Structured Cabling?

A : Structured cabling is a method of cabling for data and voice network that follows a certain standard or structure. In offices and buildings, UTP Cat.5E and/or Cat.6 cables are laid from modular jacks at the user outlet back to a central patch panel (which is normally rack mounted). For the data network the cables are terminated into a Data patch panel and ‘patched’ (using patch cords) into a network switch and so the user outlet is used as a data port. For the Voice network, the cables are terminated into a Voice patch panel and patched into a PABX patch panel connected to the PABX or telephone system. The outlet is then used as a voice port.

Structured cabling allows for flexibility to interchange the user outlet as a data or voice port. A data port can be converted to a voice port by patching from the data patch panel to the PABX patch panel. Alternatively a voice port can also be converted to a data port by patching from the voice patch panel to the network switch.

[ps2id id=’faq-2′ target=”/]FIBER OPTIC

Q : Why are fiber optic cables used.

A : Fiber optic cables are used as it allows for very fast transmission, over longer distances and at higher bandwidths (data rates). This is because the fiber cores carry light pulses which travel very much faster, have less loss and are immune to electromagnetic interference compared to electrical pulses transmitted through copper cables. Fiber optic cables are mainly used in data and telecommunication networks.

[ps2id id=’faq-3′ target=”/]TELECOM

Q : What is a RJ-11 cable used for?

A : A RJ-11 cable connects a telephone to a telephone jack or socket.

[ps2id id=’faq-4′ target=”/]ELECTRICAL

Q : What is the electrical cable used for a 13Amp Power Socket?
A : The cable used for a 13Amp power socket is the Electrical, 3 x 1C x 2.5mm2 cable. The 3 cores are for live, neutral and earth connections.

[ps2id id=’faq-5′ target=”/]COAXIAL

Q : What is a coaxial cable?

A : Coaxial or coax cable is an electrical cable that comprise an inner conductor surrounded by a flexible insulating tube followed by a metallic shield and enclosed with an outer PVC jacket. Some examples where coaxial cables are used is for the cables transmission of radio frequency (RF) signals, such as connecting radio transmitters and receivers with their antennas although fiber optic cables are mostly used presently. Previously, computer network connections used the coax RG58 cable for 10Base2 networks. Presently coaxial cables are mainly used for transmission of cable TV signals (RG6 cable) and for CCTV transmission (RG59 cables).

[ps2id id=’faq-6′ target=”/]CONTROL & INSTRUMENT

Q : What is control & instrumentation cable?

A : Control & Instrumentation cable are cables which are mainly used for measuring, control or regulation of transmission signals for machines, electrical instruments and devices.

[ps2id id=’faq-7′ target=”/]AUDIO & VIDEO

Q : What is Audio & Video cable?

A : Audio & Video cable or AV cable are cables that carry sound and picture signals and are mainly used for TVs, VCRs, DVD players, Projectors, Digital and HDMI audio & video players.
